I Receive a "Base64Decode
error" when clicking on the My UND button?
Problem: Blackboard users experiencing
this Base64Decode error, is due to a plug-in called CommonName.
CommonName is apparently one of those plug-ins for browsers
that lets users key in anything (as in, not a URL) and goes
to its own server to hunt up
what it thinks they meant.
Fix: To remove the "CommonName" program,
use the Add/Remove Programs function in the Windows Control
Panel, then reboot the system.
Windows Fatal Errors (Blue and
White screen)?
Problem: Blackboard users experiencing
Windows Fatal Errors (blue and white screen) when trying
to log into Blackboard.
Fix: You are running an older version
of McAfee Virus Scan software that crashes your machine when
trying to log into any web page that needs a username and
password. To fix the problem go to the HECN site
and download the newer version of McAfee for your computer.
If you still have problems contact the Center 777-6305.
What Name and Password do I use?
Problem: I need to access Blackboard
to get my course material. What do I use for a username and
password?
Fix:You
should be able to log in to any Blackboard site by typing
your UND Umail Login and NAID. Those from outside the University
of North Dakota community can also log in, using the User
Name: guest and Password: guest. People not enrolled in
a particular course may be denied access to certain areas
of that course's web site. You do not need a special password
to log into Blackboard; you only need your UND Umail Login
and NAID.
Your
UND U-mail Username: Every UND student,
full-time faculty member, and full-time staff worker
has an e-mail address @und.nodak.edu (even if they
use a different mailbox (i.e. @mail.und.nodak.edu,
@hotmail.com, etc.). These students, faculty, and staff
each have a unique identifier, known as the UND U-mail
Username. This identifier, which comprises the first
segment of the default UND U-mail e-mail address (firstname.lastname@und.nodak.edu),
serves as the User Name for Blackboard. (For example,
jane.doe is the UND U-mail Login for the e-mail address
jane.doe@und.nodak.edu.)
If you do not have a UND Umail Username
go to the Information
Technology Systems and Services web page to activate
your account or for help with your account.
Your NAID: All
UND students are automatically assigned a NAID when they
matriculate. Full-time UND faculty and staff should get
a NAID when they are hired by the University.
If you have forgotten your NAID,
you need to follow the instructions below.
Faculty: Dept secretary
or check with the Registrar's office
Students: Check with your
instructor or the Registrar's office
Registrar Office: 701.777.2711
The Blackboard system uses this browser-based
user name and password authentication scheme to allow instructors
the ability to secure sensitive areas of their courses.
However, anyone can log into the public areas of any course,
using the user name guest and password guest.
I can't access certain areas of
a course!
Problem: I can't access certain
areas within a course?
Fix: The
Communication and Student Tools buttons of each Blackboard
course are always secured. In addition, each course instructor
can choose to secure other areas of his or her Blackboard
course.
This means that only students, graders,
course builders, teaching assistants, and/or instructors
who are on the enrollment list for a course can access
these secured areas of the course.
Student enrollment data for a Blackboard
course comes from the registrar's enrollment data. If you
are a student who feels he or she should have access to
a course, please contact your instructor.
Instructors can add students to their
course. The student must supply the instructor with their
UND Umail Login and NAID.
Those who log in with user name guest
and password guest cannot access secure areas of the course,
such as Communication and Student Tools buttons.
I still need help! Who can I call?
Problem: I still can't get into
my Blackboard courses, who can I contact?
Fix: Please contact the ITSS Help
Desk at 777-2222. If you have other Blackboard-related questions,
please contact your Instructor. If you still have problems
contact the Center's Blackboard Help Line at 777-6305.
